United Utilities have announced that the last area in Blackburn affected by the advice to boil water, because of possible contamination, has now been removed from the list of affceted areas... The last area was the Roman Rd Industrial Estate , the water there has now been declared safe to drink
A new ticketing system is being trialled in Blackburn with Darwen. It is part of the smart ticketing project. Customers will be able to get a card which they can then charge with money, which can be used to pay for bus fares. It avoids the need to carry lots of change. United Utilities have said that areas affected by the recent water contamination crisis will be sent letters detailing possible compensation. Residents in some areas of Blackburn and Lower Darwen were advised to boil water after a parasite was found in samples of water tested at a treatment plant in Preston. The restrictions have now been lifted from these areas except for the Roman Rd Industrial Estate.
United Utilities customers in parts of Blackburn with Darwen do not need to boil their water.
The introduction of the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013 changed the timing of compulsory reviews of UK Parliamentary polling districts and polling places. The next compulsory review must now be started and completed between 1 October 2018 and 31 January 2019 (inclusive). Subsequent compulsory reviews must be started and completed within the period of 16 months that starts on 1 October of every fifth year afterwards.
