Money down the drain

Another Labour overspend.

Blackburn with Darwen's Labour run Council has had to asmit another major overspend. Darwen Market Square that was developed after the demolition of the 3 day market has been overspent by ober half a million pounds. A report tothe Council's Executive Board on 8 July revealed and overspend on the project of £526,000 on a £1.5 million project. Can we trust them to look after our money?

Blackburn Bus Station Shocker £3.7 million over budget

Blackburn's much heralded bus station has finally cost £8.4 million. Blackburn with Darwen's Labour run council said it would only cost £4.7 million at the start. They had to replace the contractors during the building of the project and when challenged by Liberal Democrat Councillors they said it would not result in increased costs. Liberal Democrat Councillor Roy Davies said," This will come as a shock to Blackburn with Darwen Council Tax payers, the Labour Councillors in charge should hang their heads in shame." His colleague Councillor Paul Browne added, "This is not the first time this council has overspent on big projects - they miscalculated on the cost of removing burials to make way for the ring road extension."

Lib Dem Councillor get action on abandoned building site

Lib Dem Councillor, Roy Davies, has been working hard to get action on the seemongly abandoned building site in Clarence St, Darwen. They are due to develop flats but there had been no action on the site for years. Cllr Davies has written to the Council and finally the Council has contacted the developers. They have received assurances from the developers that were should start again soon to complete the development.
