Independent website for young voters launched

Westminster-based political communications and media relations agency The Whitehouse Consultancy has re-launched an online tool, de-mob, that aims to encourage young voters to engage with the issues that affect them ahead of the May General Election.

Wind Turbine at Bull Hill withdrawn

Cllr David Foster was pleased to hear that the application fro a wind turbine near Bull Hill has now been withdrawn. Many local people objected to the scheme and now the developers have decided to withdraw their application. "This is good news for local people", saaid Cllr Foster, "We need to protect the view of the tower and the moors above Darwen.

Blackburn with Darwen Council is about to consult on new dog control orders. The Council should be pub,lishing these officially in the next few weeks and you have 28 days to comment on them before a final decision is made by the Council's Executive Board. There will be 3 types of order.

Jobless households at new low

The number of households where no one is in work has fallen to an alltime low. Figures released by the Office of National Statistics shows that there are 3.5 million housholds where nobody is in work. This represents 17% of all housholds and compares with a peak of 20.9% in the 1990's.. During the last year the number of households without anyone working fell by 182,000.

Lancs Lib Dem MP votes against government on Syria

Local Lib Dem MP Gordon Birtwistle, MP for Burnley, voted against the government on Thursday night. Nine Liberal Democrat MPs opposed the government's motion on using force in response to the gas attackson civilians last week. Other MPs who voted against the government were Hazel Grove MP, Andrew Stunell and former Education Minister, Sarah Teather.
