New University Technical College for East Lancs

The government has announced that East Lancs will have one of the first University Technical Colleges. Costing £18 million it will cater for 600 14-19 year olds across East Lancs.

It will be based around Burnley and specialise in engineering and construction; supporting advanced manufacturing employers within the aerospace supply chain, the nuclear industry and green utilities and technologies. It will be managed by Training 2000.

The East Lancs University Technical College will be a 'UTC Plus' with the Lower, Middle and Upper Colleges forming progression paths through the UTC with points of entry and exit/transition that are flexible and modelled to learner aspirations and abilities. This concept provides flexible learning bridging academic subjects with technical/vocational learning and experiences. The curriculum will be delivered through a thematic approach, where learners solve real problems from particular industries via termly employer-led projects.
