The Mayors of both Blackburn with Darwen and Darwen Town Council officially opened the recently refurbished Darwen Tower. The tower was opened in 1898 but in 2010 the dome blew off in galeforce winds. Thanks to local company WEC Engineering the dome was rebuilt by their apprentices and was winched into place by helicopter last month.

Cllr Karimeh Foster, Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen and Cllr Paul Browne Darwen Town Council Mayor, were on hand together with WEC Managing Director Steve Hartley and the apprentices who built the dome, to officially open it in sub zero temperatures today, 3 Feb in front of a large group of dedicated walkers.
