Liberal Democrat and Conservative Party Leaders have sent a joint plea to Local Government Minister Eric Pickles asking for fair treatment for Blackburn and Darwen.

Lib Dem Leader Cllr David Foster said, "We are expecting the announcement of the amount of money the government are going to give to Blackburn with Darwen shortly and we want to ensure that we are treated fairly.

We all recognise that the current financial crisis will mean cuts, but we want to make sure that Blackburn with Darwen does not have a greater share of these cuts compared with other authorities. We are also asking for clarification on how the Voluntary Sector will be helped when they are likely to have cuts made to their funding from local authorities.

At recent meetings I have lobbied government ministers on behalf of Blackburn with Darwen."
