Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson Cllr. Chris Thayne has called on the authority to provide more guidance to school governors to help them monitor their schools progress more effectively.

Blackburn with Darwen has seen two of its secondary schools put into "Special Measures" following poor OFSTED inspections. Councillor Thayne believes the local authority should provide more detailed guidance for the school governors, so they can give their schools a "Health Check".

Cllr. Thayne said, " This authority has had a good track record of moving Primary Schools out of "Special Measures", we now need to show the same determination to do the same for our Secondary Schools. School governors are there to monitor the effectiveness of their schools and we need to make sure we give them the tools to do the job properly."
