Lib Dem Councillor jumps before he’s pushed

22 Apr 2011

Councillor Abdul Rehman has resigned from the Liberal Democrat Groups on Blackburn with Darwen Council.

Commenting on the decision Group Leader Cllr. David Foster said, "I think this is a case of a councillor resigning before he was kicked out of the Group. All Liberal Democrat councillors sign up to an agreement when they join which list their responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is to keep their constituents informed and attend local community meetings. Cllr. Rehman has not produced any leaflets for his ward and has a poor attendance record at local community meetings. He was very likely to have been kicked out of the Group after the local elections and would not have been reselected to fight for the Party in 2012. He has contributed very little to the Group over the last 12 months and will not be missed. I will be interested to see if any other Party is willing to accept a councillor with his record."
