Lib Dem Candidate for Rossendale & Darwen chosen
Liberal Democrats in Rossendale & Darwen have chosen local man Sean Bonner to fight the parliamentary election on 8 June.
Sean is proud to stand for the Liberal Democrats in Rossendale and Darwen, and would be honoured to represent the area in Parliament. A proud Darrener, Sean grew up in Hoddlesden and moved back to the area 12 months ago, having finished studying at Warwick University, and currently works for an education charity. He has had a season ticket at Blackburn Rovers since the age of seven, and will be renewing next season no matter how bad it gets!
Sean wants to be part of a Lib Dem government that will take tough decisions for the good of the country, such as adding a penny on income tax to be ringfenced for the NHS. We have an ageing population, so need to spend more on healthcare. The Tories seem content to see the NHS crumble.
If elected, he would campaign for improved investment in environmental initiatives such as increased tree planting, proper funding for the area's fantastic parks, tougher rules on the development of derelict brownfield sites before permission is given for building on green fields, and investment in renewable energy, banning fracking in Lancashire.
Sean says: 'It's been hard to watch how the Tories have spent the last seven years cutting funding for local councils, especially in more deprived areas like ours. What's more, they now want to cut taxes further for large corporations, are happy for a 'hard Brexit' that will make it much harder for small businesses here in East Lancashire to trade with the continent and even want to bring back fox hunting. I want to be part of a strong Lib Dem opposition that will do a proper job standing up to them.'
