Blackburn with Darwen Local Election Results

Liberal Democrats lost 2 seats to Labour in the local elections in May, but Labour failed to gain overall control and the Lib Dems won the most votes in Darwen.

In a dramatic count Labour failed to gain control of the Council which now stands at

Labour 31 seats, Conservatives 19, Liberal Democrats 9, For Darwen 5

Labour gained 3 seats (2 from the Lib Dems and 1 from Independent) and Conservatives gained 1 from Independent.

Liberal Democrats retained their 2 seats in Darwen and came within 20 votes of unseating a long standing Labour councillor in Sudell. The Lib Dems gained the most votes overall in Darwen and the For Darwen Party came bottom in all the wards they fought.

The overall figures for Darwen Wards (Marsh House, Sudell, Sunnyhurst & Whitehall) are:

Lib Dem 32%

Labour 30%

Tories 23%

For Darwen 15%
