Blackburn with Darwen Council changes hands

16 Sep 2010

Following a meeting of Blackburn with Darwen Council on Tuesday, Labour has now taken control of the Council. This follows the defection of 2 ex For Darwen Councillors and the failure of one of the For Darwen councillors to turn up to the meeting.

Lib Dem Group Leader Cllr. David Foster said," I am concerned that 2 councillors elected as For Darwen Councillors have in effect defected to Labour. In fact it is reported that one of them has actually joined the Labour Party. They should resign and allow the electors to decide if they want them as their councillors under their new banner.

Only 2 councillors missed the meeting, the Mayor who is ill but also a For Darwen Councillor. This was one of the most important meetings of the year and the electors of Sunnyhurst ward in particular need to know why one of their councillors could not be bothered to turn up."
