Alternative arrangements for collection of rubbish continues Wednesday

12 Jan 2010

Alternative arrangements for dealing with the backlog of rubbish across Blackburn with Darwen are set to continue tomorrow, Wednesday.

Many estates and side streets are still unaccessible for the collection crews and further snow is forecast.

As a result, bins left on main roads will be collected and where possible, residents in areas with back streets or cul-de-sacs, are asked to take their rubbish to the end of the street where it can be more easily collected.

Collections points have also been set up on side streets for residents to bring their bags of rubbish.

It is hoped that the usual collection service can resume on Thursday but a decision will be taken tomorrow, Wednesday, once conditions have been reviewed.

Councillor Alan Cottam, executive member for regeneration and environment, said: "Many people have taken advantage of the side street locations and I would like to thank residents for their co-operation during these unusual times."

Current arrangements are as follows:

  • Please bring your rubbish at these times to be collected. Do not leave bags at the locations beforehand - please respect local residents.
  • There will be two vehicles - refuse and recycling.
